Comida Chilena/Chilean Food

Una comida muy popular en Santiago es el hotd og, especialmente los hot dogs italianos. Estos hot dogs tienen tomates, mayonesa y palta. Las familias de muchas de los estudiantes preparan hot dogs italianos por la cena y tambièn, hay muchos lugares donde puede comprar hot dogs italianos para comer. Son diferentes, ¡pero muy buenos!

A popular food in Santiago is the hot dog, especially what they call Italians. These hot dogs have tomatoes, mayonaise, and avocado. A lot of the host families give us Italians for dinner, and there are also many places where you can buy them to eat. It´s different, but very good!

La otra comida en Chile es muy buena. Comemos muchas verduras y frutas. ¡Las frutas son deliciosas! Hay muchas duraznos, demascos, ciruelas, pomelos y mucho màs. El fin de semana pasado, el grupo probamos el pastel de choclo, cual es un plato con muchos estratos. El primer es choclo y despuès hay pollo y bistec, un huevo y aceitunas. Es muy diferente, pero muy rico. ¡Estamos disfrutando la comida nueva!

The other food in Chile es very good. We eat a lot of vegetables and fruit. The fruit is delicious! There are many peaches, nectarines, plums, grapefruit, and much more. Last weekend, the group tried "Pastel de Choclo" (Corn Cake); it´s a dish with a lot of layers. The first is corn and next it´s chicken and beef, egg, and olives. It´s very different, but very good. We´re enjoying the new food!

La Gente Chilena/The Chilean People

La gente acà en Chile es muy diferente que algùn otro pais que hemos visitado. Desde nuestros primeros momentos en este lugar, hemos sentirnos muy bienvenidos. Nuestros familias anfitrionas han sido muy agradables y generosas, nos saludando con besos y abrazos. Aun la gente en las calles es amable. Nuestro primer dìa, una chica en un restaurante le ayudò a alguna de los estudiantes pedir su almuerzo, y al mismo tiempo otra mujer le ofreciò su cambio correcto para pagar por el almuerzo, por ejemplo. Nos hemos disfrutado cada minuto y apreciamos todas las acciones amables.

The people here in Chile are ery different from any other country we`ve visited. Ever since our first moments in this place, we`ve felt welcomed. Our host families have been very friendly and generous, welcoming us with kisses and hugs. Even the people in the streets are friendly. Our first day, a girl in a restaurant helped one of us order her food, and at the same time another woman offered her exact change to pay for the lunch, for example. We have enjoyed eery minute, and we appreciate all of the friendly actions.

El dìa en los Andes/The Day in the Andes

El domingo pasado fuimos al Parque Nacional de Morado para hacer trekking. Caminamos màs de 12 kilometros y almorzamos al lado de una laguna verde. El paisaje era bien bonito, y habìa vistas que nadie habìa visto en su vida. Despuès del almuerzo un grupo caminò màs y llegamos a glaciar San Francisco. El hielo estaba fundiendo y tuvimos la oportunidad estar al dentro de la glaciar.

This past Sunday we went to Parque Nacional de Morado to go hiking. We walked more than 12 km and we had lunch next to a small lake. It was beautiful, with scenery that none of us had seen in ourlives. After lunch, a group of us walked further to arrive at the San Francisco glacier. The ice had formed a cave and we had the opportunity to walk inside the glacier.

Aquì es nuestro grupo entre las clases de cocinar y bailar. Pasamos el dìa aprendiendo sobre la cultura chilena y todos se disfrutaron mucho.

Here is our group between classes of cooking and dancing. We passed the day learning about the Chilean culture and we really enjoyed ourselves.

These are photos of our dancing class. We went to a separate campus of Universidad Mayor and learned the Cueca, the national dance of Chile, among others.

El llegado/The Arrival

Este fue nuestro primer dìa en Santiago. Fuimos a la universidad del aeropuerto y conocimos a nuestras familias. Hacìa mucho calor pero todos estuvieron emocionados llegar a la cuidad.

This was our first day in Santiago. We went to the university from the airport and met our families. It was very hot but all were excited to arrive to the city.

¡Bienvenidos a Santiago, Chile!/Welcome to Santiago, Cile!

Estamos un grupo de diecisiete estudiantes de la Universidad de Delaware. Viviremos en Santiago, Chile por cinco semanas para estudiar español. Salimos los Estados Unidos el mièrcoles, el 2 de enero y empezamos nuestra aventura. Tuvimos un vuelo largo,10 horas, y llegamos a Santiago a las 8:00 de la mañana. Estàbamos muy cansados, pero muy emocionados estar en Chile. Nadie sabìa què esperar. Santiago es una cuidad muy grande, pero muy diferente que las ciudades de los Estados Unidos. Es muy limpia y no hay muchos edificios altos. Quedaremos con familias chilenas durante nuestro viaje y vamos a asistir las clases en la Universidad Mayor en Providencia, Santiago.Este blog va a mostrar todo sobre nuestro viaje. ¡Disfrùten!

We are a group of 17 students from the University of Delaware who will be spending 5 weeks in Chile studying Spanish. We left the states Wednesday, January 2 to embark on our adventure. We had a long 10 hour flight and arrived in Santiago at 8:00 in the morning. Besides being tired, we were so excited to be here. None of us really knew what to expect. The city is huge, but different than many cities in the US - very clean and not many tall buildings.We will be staying with Chilean families while we are here and attending classes at Universidad Mayor in Providencia, Santiago. This blog will show everything about our trip. Enjoy!
